"Delta Golf India, Wind 2kn 220°, Runway 27 clear to land" - the communication with Tannkosh ATC was already just the bare minimum during our approach at Thursday afternoon. The following days the workload for the ATC guys of the self-appointed "Europe´s busiest Controll Tower" increased a lot. Due to a regulated, detailed explained but simple approach procedure (which was published beforehand) only the large amount of movements as far as the synchronous performed flying displays is manageable. Awesome weather conditions with temperatures beyond 30° are the reason for hecticness at the sky especially on Friday. Which brings us straight to the Tannkosh main topic - it’s all about the weather like as every year. The “one and only Tannkosh weather” consisting of heavy rain and coldness was part of the event certainly, but all in all by far not as bad as in the last years. Rain belongs to Tannkosh like the red shirts of the Team Tannkosh and hot temperatures on Thursday till Friday evening/Sunday were a lot of fun. Anyway a short look to the weather radar at Friday wasn’t the worst idea, because a cold front brought rain and most of all an extreme drop in the temperature, round about 20°, during the night. The way from the tent to the shower was unaccustomed cold at this Saturday morning. A hot coffee afterwards and the flying display during the day indemnified for that unpleasantness. Highlight of the fantastic displays was the Airbus A380, which was performing some fly-bys. Before all the crews started their flights back home on Sunday, there was the large and legendary “Rock im Hangar” party. Altogether round about 1400 airplanes found their way to EDMT at this weekend.
